My Thoughts: This book was good - just good. There are better books in the Septimus Heap series, but I still liked it. One of the things that I really liked was that it still continued on from Septimus Heap. However, I still really liked the new characters - Ferdie, Oskar, the Lady, etc.
My favorite character is.... well, most of the characters I love so much that it's hard to choose. Oskar - he could read the ground and pick locks so well, and how Alice had gills. I thought that was a creative idea. The writing was good and interesting, although I don't think they used the older characters enough - they took away Septimus' good personality and humor. I think Sage gave away a little too much in the beginning. She explained everything, which took away the effect of being on the edge of your seat. It was a little like seeing into the future of the book.
Overall, this book was a good book, but its not as good as the Septimus Heap books.
