Rating: High Four 1/2
Who I'd Recommend to: Fans of books with a different look on the world - Every Soul a Star, Hokey Pokey, and books like the School for Good and Evil - similarly, this book is darker than it appears.
Fav Quote: (coming soon)
Summary (from Amazon):
They called her Water Claire. When she washed up on their shore, no one knew that she came from a society where emotions and colors didn’t exist. That she had become a Vessel at age thirteen. That she had carried a Product at age fourteen. That it had been stolen from her body. Claire had a son. But what became of him she never knew. What was his name? Was he even alive? She was supposed to forget him, but that was impossible. Now Claire will stop at nothing to find her child, even if it means making an unimaginable sacrifice.Son thrusts readers once again into the chilling world of the Newbery Medal winning book, The Giver, as well as Gathering Blue and Messenger where a new hero emerges. In this thrilling series finale, the startling and long-awaited conclusion to Lois Lowry’s epic tale culminates in a final clash between good and evil.

My Thoughts: Uh... woah. This book made me stay up until 11:30 at night reading until I had drunk in every last word. Yes, I read this book in one day. And it wasn't because it was insanely good - it was because I HAD to know what happened.
This book was a lot darker than it seems. Claire was such a... strong, deep character in her search for her son, as were all the characters that helped her along the way (Einar, Jonas' father, Jonas, Kira, even, in a way, the TradeMaster). I loved how she went through so many obstacles in her search, and I felt her triumphs and defeats almost (maybe) as powerfully as her. The evil of the TradeMaster... I mean, I've never read of a villain in a book so different. But I believe that his kind of evil exist much more than Voldemort's, or Galbatorix, or any other Fantasy or dystopia book. I was left sobbing at the end of this book, for Claire, for Gabe, even for the TradeMaster and his hunger.
I don't even have words to describe how powerfully moving this book is, the only thing else I'm going to say is read this series and experience its tear-jerking amazingness.
(SPOILER: I'm adding this next part because I just HAVE to... the TradeMaster took Claire's youth and beauty in exchange for her son, but then her son wouldn't believe she was his mother and she would soon die. SOBS!)
